I am linking a few examples of how managing notes this way looks like: Those are the colors that I use, but you can explore more based on your background choices. These colors look good on both creme/white and black background. As an example, here is what mine looks like. The solution is to use Notability’s user palettes (every user gets first two palettes with standard colors and two more empty palettes that the user can choose to fill with their desired colors) and fill one of it with colors that are visible neatly on both backgrounds which you wish to use. If that has to remain the same in both dark/light scenarios, all I had to do was find colors that look good on both backgrounds. That leaves the background as the variable. And so, the font color becomes the constant. Hence, changing everything to adapt to the background is not an option. But if you are anything like me, I use various colors while making notes.

It’s easy if everything you wrote is in one color. There are only two variables in this scenario. I preferred the black background while studying in low light. I use the creme color background while making notes. I solved this with an extremely easy logic. If you switch backgrounds, this will not automatically change the font color to adapt to the new background and make the font more visible. If you make notes using a particular background, say white for example, and you use black ink to make notes, you cannot use a black background later. My method is merely a workaround, and not a native feature in Notability. However, I figured that even if it helps one person, I’ve done something useful. I have been putting off writing this post due to the fact that this sub has very less users.

I like to switch to dark mode while I study in the night. I have been using Notability since years to manage all my notes, and I use my notes in dark/light mode extensively. However, Notability does not have this feature (yet). Every week I come across a post on this sub relating to dark mode feature in Notability, and automatic switching of font colors.
